Description of Classes
Ballet: We offer ballet in three levels; Level 1 is for ballerinas in grades PreK-2. This is where we focus on the fundamentals of ballet like the six basic positions. In Level 2 (grades 3-6) and Level 3 (grades 7-8), we build on those basic skills and work on building grace and poise. This style is a prerequisite for lyrical. Level 1 practices at 2pm on Sundays, and Level 2&3 practice at 3pm on Sundays.
Toddlers in Tutus: This class is exclusively for toddlers ages 2.5-4! We work mainly on following directions and learning the basics of dance in general. We combine technique from ballet and jazz in this combo class. Between routines and new steps, we add short but fun activities for those wiggly dancers! This class meets at 5pm Sundays.
Lyrical: This class is much more rigorous for our advanced dancers looking for more of a challenge. We use ballet as a basis for intricate, modern choreography. We work on flexibility, tricks, contortions, new spins, and technique. This class emphasizes showing emotion and telling a story through dance. Because this class is much more difficult, it is only open to dancers in grades 4+. Dancers interested in this class must have taken Level 2 or 3 ballet prior and must be in Level 2 or 3 classes for at least two sessions prior. There is a stronger commitment for this class that requires excellent attendance and outside practice.*
Poms: This class focuses on cheerleading prep in addition to dancing. We work on stunts, jumps, and cheers in addition to dance routines. This class is excellent prep for future cheerleaders! This class is broken into two levels: Level 1 (grades preK-2) and Level 2 (grades 3-8). Both levels meet at 6pm on Mondays.
Tap: In this class, we work extremely hard to learn combinations at a high speed. We start with the basics (i.e. time steps, shuffle-ball-changes, twists), and take them to the next level. Though this class is fun (and loud!), it is hard work and requires outside practice. We practice on Mondays at 7pm. Level 1 (grade preK-2) and Level 2 (grades 3-8) meet at the same time.
* Lyrical is a higher level class offered to higher ability dancers that want a more challenging class. Dancers enrolling in this class must be prepared for more rigorous classes and mandatory at-home practice. Dancers signing up for lyrical must take ballet for at least 2 sessions prior and be entering at least 4th grade.
** Jazz is a higher level class offered to higher ability dancers that want a more challenging class. Dancers enrolling in this class must be prepared for more rigorous classes and mandatory at-home practice. Dancers signing up for jazz must take related level 2 classes for at least 2 sessions prior and be entering at least 4th grade.
