From There to Here and Here to There When you look through the history of Saint Joseph UMC, we have a story of moving from here to there. A quick look at the Saint Joseph history on our About Page reveals an incredible story of faith: Our story begins in 1836, when an organizational meeting was held in an existing schoolhouse located on the southeast corner of Saint Joe Road and Saint Joseph Center Road. Not long after that initial meeting, the new worshipping community was consecrated at the crossing of Saint Joe and Saint Joseph Center Roads. Dear Friends, Are you okay? That is a question we ask one another all the time. “Are you okay?” It is almost always well meaning and driven by true concern. We really do hope for each other that we are okay. But, is that enough? Is that what we really hope for one another? Certainly, we do not hope that anyone is less than okay, but shouldn’t we hope more for one another? Dear Friends, I pray this letter finds you well and blessed. I was at a conference this past week where I heard several really amazing authors speak. One of them, Barbara Brown Taylor, a theologian and pastor, was recently named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Not bad, eh! She said something that both inspired and challenged me. She said there are days when she works the entire day trying to perfect a single sentence. One sentence! Can you imagine? Can you imagine the patience, the concentration, the focus it takes to work all day on a single sentence? Perhaps that is how you become such an important and powerful […]
How Can I Pray for You? Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Orange Conference with a team from Saint Joseph. Orange is the curriculum that we use in our children’s and student ministries. The conference featured incredible speakers, valuable breakout sessions, and inspiring worship experiences. As amazing as all the sessions were, what has stuck in my heart and mind was a simple question and challenge. Ryan Leak, a young author, filmmaker and speaker, spoke about the importance of being present and listening to our neighbors. He said, “Too often, we spend more time talking and preaching when we should be asking questions and listening. We should be intentional about asking questions and listening.” He […]
